Announcement by the president of the festivalHappy days, about time we had some fun again. All contestants are up and ready to start this party so here we go with the introduction; awaaay!
What to expect:
All the fights of a round shall commence simultaneously, which saves us a lot of time seeing there's eight fights in the first round. All rounds shall last a given few days, which seems long, but is more convenient given the difference in timezones.
The first name mentioned in the roster shall get the first post. The roster has been made completely at random, so don't blame us if you get to fight someone you don't want to fight.
You cannot double post in a fight, and you can't edit a post once it's made, unless one of the contestants find that they are autoed too much. Do not, however, choose to sort this out all by yourself, the judges may get confused by that and choose to disqualify when such isn't needed.
The fights are each judged by three judges, the final being an exception which will get judged by five. These judges will look - amongst others - at the quality of your entire post (thus spelling and grammar too), the strategies used and overall originality.
You can get disqualified for the following reasons: god-moding, not showing up and starting unnecessary fusses. Other than that this is mostly an anything goes tournament.
Just one more thing, because we've had trouble with it in the past, mounts and pets are NOT allowed in the tournament. These are one-on-one fights.
The following image depicts the roster of upcoming tournament.
Every fight gets their own topic - that means there will be 8 topics to start with. Once the topic has been opened, opening posts may be made and the fighting can begin!
This round ends Sunday at midnight European Central Time. Judgments will be delivered Monday.

Just a small thing about the picture:
Isn't there one column missing? It seems so, to me. Or is the cup the "final column" ?

Uh, yeah, actually. It's not really correct.
EDIT: or it is... Oh yeah it is.

I think that little cup in the center is the final battle.
Question time: I'm up against Mira but she hasn't been online in a while, and she has to make the opening post. If she doesn't show up before sunday, do I get to post at all? I mean, even waiting for someone can be roleplayed.

I knew there was something wrong with that rule... I just couldn't really figure out what. Either way, a mail has been sent to every member of the RP, she should have gotten notice to be there. But if it really takes too long I'd say you can just start posting.
And yes, that cup is the last round.
Collin.Edit: Yes, I manage to rat my alt within a month, I think this is a new record for me.

It doesn't matter who starts - so the first one to get to the tournament grounds (some characters have to travel a bit) can make the first post.
In case the first post is the only post, you win by forfeit of the other party, and you will go to the next round. So this first round already weeds out all the non-active people!

You'd better participate once you've entered, or you have to be stupid.
Collin
Apr 19 2007, 06:39 PM
Well there's people who have no internet access at the moment, and they had no way to foresee that when they entered.
This tournament is actually in the making since January or something, so there's a big time gap in between. And a lot of things can happen in 4 months.

We use a router, and I have internet, but he doesn't.

Yes. Right... Booyah... You're new, so I won't scold you for this, yet, but try to stick with the subject of a thread?

Yeah, I felt stupid right after posting it, but I had to go at that moment, so I didn't have time to remove it.
But, back to the topic: The tournament!
Any matches started yet?

QUICK EDIT TO STAY ON TOPIC
Oh, and there's a slight prob with Belt, since he's a Minish and all. And since i'm his semi-minion. And-
Well just taki it from me, there's a slight difficulty. But Belt may solve it, and otherwise i'll try to.
EDIT: nice

EDITē: Oh crap, wrong account. Imagine this was Maladict.
Levi Ice-Cleaver
Apr 19 2007, 07:23 PM
How the hell are you supposed to defeat a Minish? They're so small, maybe you could squish him?
Raeden
Apr 19 2007, 07:27 PM
If you could actually see him. Minisch can only be seen by children and those who are extremely pure of heart (like pure enough to break Hugo's curse in villa volta in the efteling). But if I remember correctly you can also see Beltingson if you're pure evil.
Levi Ice-Cleaver
Apr 19 2007, 07:28 PM
So from the information I got, the best stategy would be to just pound the entire field at once!

If that would be possible, that is.
Frietepiet
Apr 19 2007, 07:32 PM
Way to go, Beltingson. I wonder why Minish even try to be part of events sometimes, if we can't even see them
Sayon and Wyiet

Arg! Now I have to post horribly bad posts just to get there in time... Well, I'll survive I guess. Good luck to everyone!

Anyone mind telling me why I'm in the bracket?
I didn't even sign up
Aure

Haha, according to the tournament people you did sign up! Maybe someone signed YOU up?
You don't have to show up though, means Bella'll have a guaranteed win

Apr 19 2007, 10:29 PM
Well, I'm actually kinda happy that I'm in
Note: Keala says she might be able to take part in the tourney.
Also: Messing with Combatant names is fun

- Psychic vs. Defenseman
- Low-Flying Rito vs. Kokiri Awesomeness
- Fire Mage vs. Another Rito
- Stump vs. Oldymoldy
- Drunkard vs. Vampire
- Spellsword vs. Physical manifestation of 1337
- Merchant vs. ADHD
- Bad Luck vs. Halv
Isn't is so great to know what I think of everyone?

The "proper" names:
- Mira vs. John
- Bisow vs. Sonsa
- Keala vs. Semasa
- Conroy vs. Kraes
- Frietepiet vs. Maladict
- Bella vs. Faust
- Nomi Lem vs. Sayon
- Dansu vs. Belt

Well, not in the reading minds segment, but she can lift daggers and kill three super-dodongos in one post. However, I need to stop complaining about that.
She can hit you with rocks via mindpower.

I put 10 gold rupees on
Fight B: Bisow
Fight C: Keala
Fight D: Kraes
Fight H: Dansu
to make it through the first round. I'm not betting on the other fights because it's unethical to bet on fights in which you or your teammates are involved and I have not a clue about whether Bella or Faust is going to win.
Who takes on the bet? I could use some rupees.
Faust
Apr 20 2007, 11:36 PM
I would, but there are two problems.
1. I have no opinion on who will win.
2. I have no rupees x_X
Dansu

Yay! Oh boy, this is so exciting! I wish everyone good luck and happy posting! And thanks for betting on me! *blushes*

Dansu vs. Beltingson
Nomi Lem vs. Sayon
Conroy vs. Kraes
They're all tiny!

Hey admins: Is it okay to enter the battle arena to give someone advice before the other combatant has arrived?
Atake
Apr 21 2007, 06:34 PM
You mean to enter it while you're not actually part of that match?
I suppose you could. Just make sure to shout from outside of the 'ring', so to speak.
Edit: Actually, don't. This makes the fight unfair since one of the players will have more to write about.
Arsenic
Apr 21 2007, 06:46 PM
Hmm... that makes sense. But I guess we can at least post us as sitting in the stands as spectators, since the first post of this topic says we can come watch?

You can watch, but don't post in the fight topics themselves. Post in the general Carnival Island topic for those things.

ROUND 1:
Battle 1: Raeden wins due to Mira's inactivity.
Battle 2: Sonsa vs. Bisow
Battle 3: Keala wins due to Semesa not showing up
Battle 4: No combatants
Battle 5: Frietepiet vs. Maladict
Battle 6: Faust wins due to Bella not showing up
Battle 7: Nomi Lem vs. Sayon
Battle 8: Halv has yet to arrive.
ROUND 2:
Battle 1a: Raeden vs. Bisow
Battle 1b: Raeden wins because Keala cannot fight herself
Battle 2: Keala wins due to lack of an opponent.
Battle 3: Faust vs. Frietepiet or Maladict
Battle 4: Nomi Lem or Sayon vs. Beltingson or Dansu
See this? The touney is screwed.

I think a positive check-in would have been the wise thing to do. Faust is right: half the people haven't even shown up.
Raeden
Apr 21 2007, 10:48 PM
Yay, letīs blame the admins for the fact that people entered a tournament and didnīt show up!
Faust
Apr 21 2007, 10:56 PM
Let's also blame the Admins for signing up people who only went to Carnival Island, but never wanted to take part!
Raeden
Apr 21 2007, 11:22 PM
Well, I was sarcastic, your point could actually be subject to discussion.
Itīs not the fault of the admins that people sign up for the tournament, even bother mentioning it in their in game posts a few times, and then decide not to show up. Especially if they are online a couple of times during the event.
Also I donīt see why Keala couldnīt fight herself. She could make a good long story about the fight, without having to worry about autoing or waiting for her opponent. She would pretty much decide whoīs gonna win but still, a story is a story.
Now, I could say some critical other things about the tournament and the organisation and how the admins handle it, heck I could name at least three things I would have done better from the top of my head, but I won't. You know why? Because I wouldn't have actually done those things better, I wouldn't have done them at all. At least they take the time to come up with stuff for us to give the roleplaying some meaning. So I'm not going to complain.
Another reason I'm not complaining is that everyone who doesn't show up increases my chances at winning

So...I managed to get from the Lost Woods to the competition area in about a half hour...and my fingers hurt...I keep misspelling things now...
Can't wait to start fighting in round numero two!
