Makari
Name: Makari
Gender: Male
Age: 23

Race: Zora
Class: Fisherman

Looks:
Makari has the characteristic head fin that make Zoras so distinct. His is framed by two smaller off-shoots around his face that give a semblance of hair. They are almost-green blue, and about the length of his longest finger. The main trunk of the head fin tapers back in an elegant curve that reaches to the bottom of his torso. Its end is shaped similarly to a whale’s tale, with two leaf-shaped fins off the tip. His nose continues the curve of his forehead down from his head-fin, ending in a sharp point often seen in Zora features. Though typical in shape, his nose is not as long as many Zoras’. His eyes are angled down and solidly black-blue. His general face structure is oval, with high but unpronounced cheekbones. His lips are thin and wide across, by Hylian standards.
Makari stands an elegant six feet high. His waist is thin, proportionate to his slender body frame. His shoulders are narrower than many male Zoras. Therefore his body is more streamlined, which makes him a faster swimmer. Small fin-like protrusions curve down, off his lower back. Unlike many of his kindred, these quasi-fins are directly behind him, not off the hips.
Extending from his arms are two more fins, one on each arm. Like all Zoras, these enlarge when his adrenalin gets released for combat and are detachable. His fins are shaped like reversed arrowheads, with the point of the arrowhead attaching to his elbows. They are very narrow and sharp, perfect for slicing through the water.
Makari has the blue skin of river Zoras. His body is light, almost white, and darker blue on his head and arm fins. He has several distinct markings, including four small dark blue rings above each eye, progressively decreasing in size. In addition he has a fishbone pattern that runs down his head fin, which begins barely visible and gradually darkens toward the tip. There is a similar spine-like pattern in dark blue following Makari’s own spine, down his back.

Clothes:
Few Zoras wear clothing in their own home of Zora’s River, but most own clothing for travel abroad. Makari, however, is never without a few certain items. Bracers wrap completely around his legs from his shins to his calves and are made of thick, brown leather. He also wears matching cuffs, roughly three fingers wide, on his wrists. Both cuffs and bracers are detailed with intricate embossed designs reminiscent of flowing water. These designs are traditional Zora’s River symbols of the home River and the Zora life-tie to water. When traveling outside Zora’s Domain, Makari wears a wide leather belt with similar embossing and set with a large oval of green river-tumbled glass. Front and back loin clothes of heavy linen hang from his belt. This slows him considerably when swimming, and is usually put aside when he enters water.
For formal occasions Makari wears a thick silver chain around his neck from which hangs a smooth black stone shaped like a whale, to symbolize Lord Jabu-Jabu, his god.

Personality:
As a result of growing up with five siblings, Makari has always felt the need to prove himself. He basks in being the center of attention and conversation. Paradoxically, he does not like being singled out or stared at by “ignorant foreigners”. He becomes waspish and testy when he feels he, alone, is being treated unfairly. He can appear overly cocky or snobby, but is generally congenial and good company. People tend to like him, and the feeling is usually mutual. With close friends or kin he is completely laid-back and relaxed. Once someone has proven to be a friend, it takes a lot for Makari to take offense or become angry with them.
He believes the little things in life should be appreciated, not over-looked. He gets annoyed with people who are unaware of their surroundings, since it is his philosophy.

Biography:
Born to a family of Zoras in the aptly named Zora’s River, Makari had a relatively safe childhood. There were the occasional Octorok sightings, but like all Zoras, he learned to avoid them. The biggest challenge Makari faced growing up did not come from wild beasts, but from competition with five other siblings. He fought hard for recognition– learning how to produce a magical electric field, constantly practicing swimming, leaps and diving, and learning to catch fish with nets and fins. Although he would never be the strongest or most learned of his clutch, he did become the fastest and most agile.
When he was old enough, Makari moved into a small dwelling in the River, close to the Zora’s Domain waterfall. The single room was not large, but he was proud to have a place of his own. He took a job with the shop vendor inside the Domain, supplying fish from the River. He rarely left the Zora realms at that time. His days were spent fishing and frolicking in the fast River and deep waters of Zora’s Domain.
After a couple years, Makari had built a respectable reputation within the Zora community. He began selling fish directly, and realized small river fish would never meet his demands. He started making routine visits into Lake Hylia for larger game. As he began to go abroad, his interaction with other races, Hylians in particular, increased dramatically. He began wearing his leg bracers and wrist cuffs at this time, to further identify with his home. They were specially made by the Zora shopkeeper in exchange for a month’s supply of fish. Eventually, the belt and loin cloths, along with his messenger bag, were bought with similar trade exchanges. These latter items were created specifically because Makari was traveling further abroad than the Lake. He had met several Hylian merchants and wanted to capitalize on their non-fishing culture. He got in contact with merchants in Hyrule Castle Town Market and began profitable sales to them.
His life today is little different. Most of Makari’s time is spent fishing in the Lake or the River and currying between Hyrule Market and his home.

Item storage:
His leather belt has a medium-sized pouch to store small items like rupees and herbs. On longer journeys, Makari carries a leather messenger bag to store food and larger items. It is coated in wax to resist water and even has an interior water-proof pouch. There is also a bottle strap, to keep an air-filled bottle from floating away.

Skills:
In addition to his typical Zora abilities, Makari learned the less-common skill of creating the Zora electrical wave. It comes as a great asset when he goes in dangerous waters. He is not very strong, but is a fast, agile swimmer.
Other than Zora-related talents, Makari can play the guzheng, a half-tube zither with movable bridges and 21 strings that is plucked with multiple fingers. He often takes a small version of the guzheng on journeys, as his full-sized instrument is cumbersome to carry.

Weapon:
Makari carries nets for fishing, but his only weapons to speak of are his boomerang-like detachable arm fins.
