Nyx
Name: Nyx Varetú
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Race: (Hylian) Gerudo
Class: Performer (including illusions and storytelling)

Looks:
-Nyx has –like the most Gerudos have- a slender body. She’s almost 6 feet tall and her weight is about 140 lbs. Just like any other Gerudo she has a tanned skin.
-Her face is –again- quite like the normal Gerudo face: a big pointy nose, a straight chin, clearly visible cheekbones. One could say a sharp face.
Nyx’ has almond shaped, gold-coloured eyes with quite long lashes. Once again nothing special for a Gerudo.
-Nyx has got long black hair that almost reaches her waist. Usually she wears all of her hair a long tail.
Clothes: Unlike the most Gerudos, Nyx doesn’t wear that Arabic-looking clothing. Actually, she wears normal Hylian clothing. Nyx has two basic outfits:

-Her first one consists out of white cotton tights, long black leather boots that almost reach her knees, a knee-length skirt (black), and a long-sleeved blouse (crimson red). She has two of these ‘sets’. While travelling or if there’s a possibility that there’s gonna be a fight, she wears a black sturdy –but light- leather corset on top of her blouse. The corset serves as protection, is useless for stopping an arrow at full speed or a direct blow from a sword.
-Her second outfit simply consists out of a comfortable grey dress (of which the bottom part reaches her knees) with a pair of sandals. Once again it’s upgradable with the corset.
Nyx always wears a leather belt with a leather pouch on it.

Personality: Though it seems that most Gerudos are grumpy females that will swing their nasty swords when you come too close, Nyx is actually quite friendly. As she doesn’t have any real persons that are important to her, she is always quite open towards strangers. She’s always in for a good talk, drinking something, or a good adventure. However, there are two things you shouldn’t do if you want her as your ally: don’t be grumpy (who likes grumpy people?), and don’t restrict her. If there’s one thing she can’t stand it’s being restricted.
Nyx has always been a bit lazy and stubborn. If she didn’t feel like doing something, she didn’t do it. If she did feel like doing something she did it, and no-one who could stop her. She loves her freedom, and no-one is gonna take that from her (at least not without a struggle).

Biography:
Nyx was born in the middle of the cold night, under the light of torches. Nyx’ mother Solia was a respected member of the community; she was the personal cook for the chief. Nyx has never known who her father is, though she has heard he was a rich Hylian.

Nyx turned out to be a weak child: she couldn’t stand the burning heat of the sun, and she was coughing all day long. She seemed like a fish on the land, gasping for air. Luckily this weakness disappeared when she grew older, though when Nyx turned six she couldn’t compete with Gerudos of the same age. That wasn’t because she had a bad health; she just didn’t feel like becoming good at combat or stealing.

If there’s one thing Gerudos don’t tolerate, it are lazy Gerudos. So it came that often Nyx got punished for her behaviour, but she just didn’t care. Eventually they gave up on turning Nyx into a great warrior. Instead of that, Nyx’ mother learned Nyx how to cook. Now this was something Nyx did like, and within a short time this became one of Nyx’ ‘raisons d’être’. Nyx was fascinated by the way one could turn some ingredients into a delicious dish. At the age of ten she helped her mother cook at home, and when she turned thirteen she was allowed to cook for guests.

Yes, Nyx’ mother Solia often had guests. Be it a member of the close Gerudo community, be it a relative, but at least twice a week there came a guest. Of course, people had heard from other people that the daughter of the respectable Solia was useless. But almost every guest was surprised by the brightness of Nyx; she had the potential of becoming a really good cook like her mother, and Nyx could listen all night long to stories of the guests. Yes, those stories had quite some impact on her.

There was this particulary story that a friend of Solia used to tell Nyx. That was “The Tale Of Liví The Magician”, the story about a boy who he decides to become a great wizard. Inspired by this tale Nyx decided to become a magician herself. For months she tried and tried. Eventually, after almost two years of desperate attempts, she managed to do magic.

It was on one of the hottest days of the year; the air was vibrating and even the Gerudos thought it was quite hot. Beside being one of the hottest days, it was also a holy day for the Gerudos. They believe that on this particular day the Godess of Power, Din, comes to the land in shape of the burning heat. Solia and Nyx were visiting the temple, where the priestesses were burning all sorts of stuff, and colored smoke crawled up to the sky. Nyx got bored when one priestess began to talk about some religious things and faith, so she started looking around. Her attention was caught by the smoke. After a short while the smoke was the only thing she could see, she started focussing intensly on the smoke. Though she didn’t want too, she lost herself and got into a sort of trance. When she woke up some time later, she was still standing, and the priestess was still going on about the greatness of the Goddesses. Somehow Nyx felt different. Once again she looked at the hypnotising smoke. Once again she started looking at it, and beside that she started to move her fingers as if she was shaping clay into something. The smoke started swirling and making all kinds of weird shapes. The smoke became whatever her thoughts and her fingers made of it, so it seemed.
“The Almighty Din sometimes gives power to the weak, but sometimes it isn´t realised as power comes in many ways.”, so spoke the priestess who was looking at Nyx in a strange sort of way. From that day Nyx believed in the Goddesses.

Time flew by as Nyx kept training her ability to shape smoke. She had trained and trained; the results were promising. It became her hobby to make shapes in smoke, and especially showing it to guests. She loved how people would gasp at how the smoke started swirling, started diving, and reshaping according to her will. Though she wanted to do more magic stuff -like shaping other things or making stuff levitate- she never managed to do that till this day.

By the age of 20 Nyx was supposed to bare children. As decided by the community, Nyx would go to Hyrule Castle and kidnap a potent, strong looking man. This was her intention to do, and it all worked until the kidnapping part. She had found a quite handsome man at the gate of the castle. Nyx made sure no-one saw them while she drugged and tied him. Nyx loaded him on the donkey. However, the instant she was about to leave, people came from everywhere, and she was surrounded by guards. Nyx was powerless.

The sound of the hammer of the judge cut through the air: two years in prison was the sentence. Though it sounds strange, these two years weren’t so bad. Sure, they treated Nyx rough and the food wasn’t suited for someone who could cook great dishes, but she had entertainment. Nyx had a prisoncell with a hole in the wall with 2 bars in it; a so-called window. Not to far away there was a chimney (probably from the kitchen), and out of this chimney came something wonderful: dirty, black, smelly smoke.
Each of the 730 days were used to train smoke-shaping, pray to Din and when she paused she made up stories in her mind. Stories she someday would tell to people. Yes, time flew by.

After these two years Nyx started all over again. She decided not to go back to the Fortress –where they would think of her as a failure-, but instead of that she choose freedom. She wrote a letter to her mother, explaining that she wouldn´t come back. She’d go on the road, travelling everywhere, telling tales and doing illusions with her smoke. Until the moment we are beginning the actual story, she has been wandering through the city, earning money by entertaining in pubs and on the market. She spended this money on clothes and items, and got ready for departure.

Item storage: She uses a big backpack with all kinds of compartments in it. In this backpack she stores almost all of her stuff. She also has a beltpouch.
Weapon and items: Nyx’ only weapons are a couple of knives and a dagger.
As for the items, she carries quite some stuff around in her backpack:
General: Clothing, food, water, a sleeping-bag
Cooking: A set of light-weight cooking pans that fit in each other (so they don’t take up a lot of space), a set of knives, a little box containing herbs.
Other: She wears a dagger in triangular leather compartment on her belt. In her backpack she stores a sort of canvas blanket which is impregnated with oil: Nyx can make a sort of small improvised tent of this with 4 sticks (though it isn’t really storm-proof). In her beltpouch she keeps some sort of marbles. When one of these marbles hit the ground with some speed, it’ll burst open and form a small cloud of (colored) smoke. The best effect is gained when it’s thrown into fire though. She also keeps a supply of these in her backpack.

Skills: Nyx isn’t a skilled fighter at all. The only weapons she can handle are knives. She learned to handle knives because when cooking it’s always good if you can cut a chicken without cutting your own finger with it.
Nyx is quite a good cook; she can really make something good out of some simple ingredients.

And of course the smoke:
-Nyx is able to shape (what means reshaping, steering, compressing and spreading): damp, gasses and especially smoke. And only this, so no ‘airbending’ or tricks with other materials. For gaining the best effect, she uses her fingers while shaping, without her fingers she could only make the smoke move a little bit. Besides that, she must see the smoke (so she can’t shape smoke that’s around a corner, for example).
-Nyx can shape the smoke within a range of 70 feet (when the wind is almost quiet). However, the magic works best within a range of 30-40 feet.
-The magic is strongly affected by the power of the wind. When there’s a storm her range where the magic works is limited to 8 feet, when there’s almost no wind the range in which the magic works best grows to 30-40 feet. I think you get the idea.
-The power of the magic is also depending on how much smoke Nyx uses for shaping. She could make a small amount of smoke –let’s say the volume of a bed- look exactly like a bird. A big amount of smoke –let’s say the size of a house- is almost impossible to shape into a recognizable thing, but can be formed like a cloud and be moved at slow speed (for example).
-There are certain limitations to the density of the smoke. For example, she could never make something as hard as glass or iron from the smoke, but she could make it so dense that it’d be very hard to breath, or that when she steers her most dense smoke at full speed at someone, he’d get a blow (like a 12 year old hitting you at full strength). Once again: the less amount of smoke, the denser she can make it.
-Finally two examples on how the smoke-shaping could work in a battle:
-First create a small field of smoke around the weak enemy –making the enemy a sort of blind. After that slowly going to the enemy, stabbing him in the back with the dagger. There should be really almost no wind in this scenario.

-Sending small orbs of dense smoke at enemy, giving him blows. Eventually Nyx could poison him with toxic smoke. You need a stupid enemy for this, as the toxic gas must be very concentrated and directly sucked into the lungs. He could hold his breath and run away, or just blow the smoke away with something.

This is good stuff. And I like having another Gerudo around. Well done on the bio too. smile.gif

However, I'm wondering if this is your first character?
Nyx
Thanks =). It's true I'm not completely new to ZF; I once role-played here 2 years ago. Let's say I'm reborn. 2 years ago I used to play a Minish, but that account is sort of dead. Before that Minish I had a Dekuscrub that died literally. So, exactly spoken this is my -literally spoken- second living character. Maybe if I'm getting really enthusiastic again, I'll reanimate the Minish (and upgrade her bio). Good to be back anyway.
Collin
I knew that, I IP-checked. tounge.gif
There's a lot of people making therir come-back nowadays, I'm sure you'll see some familiar names. smile.gif Good to have you back. biggrin.gif

Either way, since this is good, I'll give you a check. smile.gif
Nyx
Thanks for the check, and I'm indeed seeing familiar faces/names (I'm quite sure you don't remember the Minish on the bird though xD).
Collin
Actually, I do.
